The workshop “Assessment of feeding alternatives in sheep and goat farms in Turkey” was held on the 27th April 2018 in Nigde, Turkey, at Nigde Omer Halisdemir University. The workshop was organized as part of the activities developed within iSAGE Task 4.2 “Animal phenotypes for resilience, adaptability and sustainability”.
The workshop was attended by sheep and goat farmers, sheep and goat breeders’ associations, and Master’s students.
The meeting dealt with the following topics:
1. Assessing feeding alternatives in sheep and goat farms in Turkey;
2. Body Condition Score;
3. Feeding strategies for different physiological stages such as mating seasons, pregnancy, lactation and lamb/kid growth periods;
4. Feeding programmes for sheep and goats in a breeding period of one year;
5. The importance of health care for sheep flocks and tribes of goats.
